WHY the Smiley? Lots of people ask us “What in the heck does a SMILEY FACE have to do with Credit Card Processing and why does everything TMC does, have a Smiley attached to it?”- we love the question and here is the simple answer. MOST business owners do not find JOY in working with their credit card processor- in fact, quite the opposite! So when we decided to take care of businesses and their processing needs, we knew we had to be different. The SMILEY FACE sends a certain message: We are glad to see you, hear you, work with you and to be of service. We CARE about you and we will do everything we can to put a smile on your face. Credit card processing is one of the products we provide but Taking Care of People and delivering a SMILE WORTHY experience is who we are and WHY we do what we do.

A Change in Celebrating The Season – Why I Believe In Christmas

It’s almost Christmas, a wonderful and beautiful time of year. At Total Merchant Concepts, we have been wishing our merchants and anyone who calls into our office a ‘Merry Christmas’ for over 25 years. The responses we’ve received have always been heartwarming. People really do enjoy a heartfelt sentiment. Christmas has always been a special time so it is surprising to hear that some people make such an issue over wishing people a Merry Christmas. I’ve even heard of people who said they were ‘canceling’ Christmas because of financial reasons. Recently, the news reported a story where many people were going to celebrate Christmas AFTER the prices come down, AFTER Christmas. Personally, I do not believe you can actually cancel or postpone Christmas. There have been plenty of

What Are You Looking For?

It’s funny how life’s circumstances can help us be better leaders at home and in our businesses! This past weekend, my husband and I went for a walk at a local park. There is a 3-mile loop that we like to walk and on this particular day, it was sunny and brisk! We clocked a great time for the 3 milers and followed up with our usual trip to the local coffee house- it was a great morning. When we got back home I realized that I had lost an earring on our walk. Typically that would not be a big deal but the earring that I lost was one of my favorites and it was a gift from a great friend. I remember thinking, “I should go

Thankful for: DISC

It’s the Holiday season and Thanksgiving is just around the corner, along with the traditional family get-together you so lovingly look forward to this time of year. (You DO right?) A chance to see family members up close and personal and create those memories you’ll cherish throughout the years.– REALLY? Remember through the years YES, but cherish? Not so fast. You’ve always gone because it means so much to Mom, but what if you could do something to make it feel like you were GETTING to be with your family for Thanksgiving instead of HAVING to get together with them? Businesses are not the only ones that benefit from truly KNOWING the people they work with. In fact, the better we know each other (personally & professionally) the

Black Friday Sales Stats

It seems hard to believe that we are just a few weeks away from our annual Thanksgiving Day celebration! After the family gatherings, the feasting & festivities (and of course the mid-afternoon naps!)- many people begin the planning and preparation for BLACK FRIDAY! Let’s take a look at the origin of the term and some statistics. The day after Thanksgiving has been the unofficial start to the Christmas shopping season since the 1930s but the history of the Friday after Turkey Day began in 1966 when the term ‘Black Friday’ was used to describe the overcrowded streets and shopping conditions in Philadelphia. Today, overcrowded stores and streets are still a part of the scene but we have also added Internet Shopping, 24 Hour Shopping and some have even

Let’s Go For A Walk

For years people have taken the challenge to run the HOOD TO COAST relay. I’ve always been intrigued but somewhere between the mountain peak and the Sandy beach – I’ve never managed to commit to the journey. Until this year, when I learned of the Portland to Coast walk that has been part of the Longer Hood to Coast. To be honest, the signing up and pre-race parts of the process were not appealing to my DO IT NOW personality – little did I know how much I would come to appreciate those finite details. As soon as I signed up – OK a couple of weeks later- I started training for the relay- I knew I would be assigned at least two legs of the relay but
