WHY the Smiley? Lots of people ask us “What in the heck does a SMILEY FACE have to do with Credit Card Processing and why does everything TMC does, have a Smiley attached to it?”- we love the question and here is the simple answer. MOST business owners do not find JOY in working with their credit card processor- in fact, quite the opposite! So when we decided to take care of businesses and their processing needs, we knew we had to be different. The SMILEY FACE sends a certain message: We are glad to see you, hear you, work with you and to be of service. We CARE about you and we will do everything we can to put a smile on your face. Credit card processing is one of the products we provide but Taking Care of People and delivering a SMILE WORTHY experience is who we are and WHY we do what we do.

To HIRE or Not to HIRE?

I remember sitting in a job interview many years ago and being told I did not have enough experience to be awarded the job. How in the world was I supposed to GET experience if they would not hire me?? That particular ‘experience’ would season the way I would hire people as a business owner in the future. Experience is a double-edged sword- we often gain experience by figuring things out while we are on the way to becoming proficient! When we are looking at filling positions here at TMC, we definitely ‘consider’ work experience but not how you might think! Here are the top 5 things we are looking for before we make a HIRING decision (in the order in which we feel they are important):  1- The

Why Is Your Hair Wet?

As a busy business owner, I sometimes fill my schedule to the brim – with barely enough time in between tasks. And so it was this past Friday when I quickly showered after a long drive home and rushed to the grocery store to pick up some items for a Lions Club event later that evening. As I was rushing through the aisles, grabbing the necessary items, I was stopped in my tracks by an inquisitive set of siblings. “How come your hair is wet”, the first brother asked. I had barely responded when the other brother asked, “How far away is your house?” As the inquiry continued, Mom was quick to apologize for the questions. I let her know they were exactly what I needed in that moment!!

Calculating Your ROI

We have, from time to time, made the decision to close our office for a “training” day, and have our team attend training seminars, webinars and events. The events themselves are always a huge success however determining what the return on investment (ROI) was can be more difficult! With a product or service, the ROI is easy to calculate. You spent X number of dollars on a product, which resulted in increased sales or productivity. Comparing the sales numbers or productivity before and after the purchase of the product will give you your ROI and all of your number crunchers are happy. With staff training, it is much more difficult to calculate the true ROI.   How do you know if your investment paid off? How long do you

Keeping Employees Engaged

Dealing with employees can be one of the most challenging aspects of small business ownership, but it can also be one of the most rewarding – HOW you ask? Let’s start with a little history. Did you know that disengaged employees (estimated at 70% of the workforce) cost the US Economy around 370 Billion each year? That’s a lot of money and it’s coming out of YOUR pockets. Every time that revolving employee door turns it costs you money with onboarding costs, orientation time, and a host of other expenses depending on the type of business you have. Your business doesn’t have to experience those extremes if you’re willing to implement a few changes in the workplace that will help keep your employees engaged and happy to work
